Biography
Robert Percy
My music, which comprises over 50 works, is for a wide range of instrumental and vocal ensembles and for mixed/digital media.
My music has been performed extensively in the UK, as well as in Europe and the United States, and has been broadcast on BBC Radio 3.
I started out as an engineering draughtsman, before pursuing a career as a (jazz) guitarist, working with numerous bands, including my own, Art in a State.
A passion for writing music led me to study composing at night school and then to undertake a BMus degree at City University, London. The degree was followed by a PhD in Composition with Rhian Samuel (completed in 2004), and then a Fellowship. I continued to lecture at City for 12 years.
I've participated in a number of composition-based education projects and have worked with a wide range of musicians, ensembles, choreographers, and film makers. I am Artistic Director for Richmond New Music Collective and have been Guest Artist Director for Borough New Music.
